OUR TEAM
Unity. Dedication. Passion.
Our team is made up of high school and university students who are passionate about providing equal rights and opportunities for all. We hope that all women can have access to safe menstruation products, and along the way destigmatize the bias around menstruation.

Founder & President
Lucy Yu
Lucy, a Grade 12 student studying at Crofton House School in Vancouver and is a gender equality advocate, founded GirlsB4Girls after hearing about the harsh stigmas associated with menstruation in the media, at school, and most importantly, while traveling around the world and visiting small towns where she noticed young girls struggling and feeling guilty about their periods. As a result, she wanted to take something so readily available in her community and share it with girls all around the world by designing customized pouches for girls to store their period supplies, as well as teaching girls about menstruation and reducing the stigma associated with it in schools.

Global Coordinator
Sarah Lin
Sarah is a first year student studying at NorthWestern University, majoring in Political Science. She is passionate about providing equal access to healthcare internationally and destigmatizing common health issues through pursuing truth with transparency. After researching for a debate centred around health in lower-income countries, Sarah saw a deficiency in menstrual health education and resources around the globe. She believes that conquering health struggles specific to women is a prerequisite to achieving gender equality. Sarah became a member of GirlsB4Girls to provide fairer access to menstrual products for women in all corners of the world. She aims to develop an education plan focused on menstrual health that erases bias in healthcare.

IT Director
Philip Ye
Philip, a Grade 12 student residing in Vancouver at Rockridge Secondary School, is eager to apply his past experience with informatics to empower the goal of GirlsB4Girls of helping to combat social issues - specifically, the harsh viewing of menstruation as a disgrace, sadly demonstrated by societies around the world, making young girls struggle and feel guilty about their periods. Equipped with the vision of using the powerful tool of the internet to provide help and support to the victims, Philip wanted to design and produce a website that has an easy-to-navigate interface that would, in turn, help victims easily be able to get familiar with the site and access valuable information and support that GirlsB4Girls offers. He hopes to contribute to the cause by promoting the website and by enhancing the online experience of the Girlsb4girls website for the victims and the supporters.

Communication & Design Director
Emily Fu
Emily Fu, a Grade 12 student studying at a boarding school on Vancouver island, and someone who wants to be able to bring change to the community, joined Girls B4 Girls after hearing about the amazing opportunity to help people worldwide in assisting them with education around menstruation and providing hygienic products for girls and women in developing countries. She hopes that by joining this foundation, she can make an impact with a group of people who has similar thoughts and values.

Vice President & Communication Director
Jasmine He
Jasmine He, a Grade 12 student inspired by the period positivity at her school in Vancouver, strives to deliver meaningful speeches about empowering those who are affected by gender injustice. She was determined to bring a change for menstruation in areas of feudalistic thoughts after seeing the movie Capernaum, where she discovered the vulnerability of females during menstruation through the character Sahar. Females were struggling to even hide their period, thus, talking and caring about their situation were out of the question. Empathized with Sahar, she began researching further in the media and at school. Consequently, she was lucky to meet GirlsB4Girls, a group of period poverty advocates sharing the same goals as her: raising menstruation funds and awareness scientifically and encouragingly.

Financial Assistant
Justin Xu
Justin is a Grade 11 student in Richmond Christian School. He is always willing to help others gain equal rights and freedoms as well as help those in need. His role as the financier will allow him to exert his strengths to help better the community. He is excited to help people and try new things with his skills.

Design Director
Kelly Yu
Kelly is a Grade 11 student attending a private all girls school in Vancouver, BC. She has always had a strong passion for art, as she takes part in the designing portion of GirlsB4Girls. After being introduced to this organization she worked with others to create visuals, such as the logo. Kelly believes that every woman deserves the right to menstrual hygiene and have access to products which allow her to feel clean and confident.
